In the context of the events of the 2017 Greek-Chinese Exchange Year 2010, Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras met with Liu Qibao, a member of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China, responsible for issues of culture and communication.
At their meeting, the Prime Minister said: “Your visit takes place after a series of high-level meetings, all of which signify the great interest of the People’s Republic of China in Greece. Last week, we had the conference of ancient civilizations after the initiative of the Ministers of Foreign Affairs of our two countries. Today you will have the opportunity to meet with the Minister of Culture in order to inaugurate the Year of Cultural Exchanges of Greece and China, in the Byzantine Museum. The basis for building trade and economic cooperation is cooperation in culture. We are proud of our ancient civilizations and of the fact that our cultures have a continuation in time. ”
Addressing the Prime Minister, Mr. Li Qibao stated: “First of all, let me convey the greetings from our President Xi Jinping and your counterpart Li Keqiang and look forward to your visit in May at the new Silk and Road forum. I want to discuss with you all the issues of common interest.
As for the forum on the ancient cultures that you mentioned, I think it is a very important initiative that can be the beginning to accomplish many interesting things. There is currently a momentum for economic and cultural cooperation between our countries. With today’s meeting, we want to discuss with you, especially our cooperation in the field of culture.
That is why it is a great honor for me, Prime Minister, to have this meeting with you.
