Meeting with ESA Director General, Johann-Dietrich Wörner

The Prime Minister and Mr. Wörner discussed ESA's strategy for Greece, while welcoming the dynamic entry of our country into ESA's activities over the past few years.

Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras met today with ESA Director General, Johann-Dietrich Wörner, at Maximos Mansion. The Minister of Digital Policy, Telecommunications and Information, Nikos Pappas, and the Secretary General of Telecommunications and Post, Vasilis Maglaras, also, attended the meeting.

The Prime Minister and Mr. Wörner discussed ESA’s strategy for Greece, while welcoming the dynamic entry of our country into ESA’s activities over the past few years. In addition, the creation of an incubator of companies of space technology in Greece was discussed, which will allow the development of new companies operating in the field of space with the support of ESA.

Mr. Wörner pointed out that every euro invested in space returns 6 euros to the national economy.  During the meeting, they referred to the Memorandum of Understanding between the Ministry of Digital Policy, Telecommunications and Information and the German company OHB, to introduce a joint venture which will participate in the construction of satellite and space systems. The above actions aim at tackling the phenomenon of brain drain and enhancing the development of high quality products and services.
