Prime Minister, Alexis Tsipras, met with the President of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), Mr. Suma Chakrabarti, at Maximos Mansion.
At the meeting, the Prime Minister referred to the country’s economic recovery and the goal of accelerating growth with an emphasis on small and medium-sized enterprises. He, also, pointed out the benefits the Greek economy has gained from the EBRD’s operation in the country, and expressed his conviction that its presence will help accelerate growth.
Mr. Chakrabarti congratulated the government for the economic recovery and employment growth and expressed the intention of the EBRD to continue to contribute. Its operation will be extended until 2025 as well as in new sectors, including small and medium-sized enterprises, tourism, real estate, renewable energy, agri-food, and investment to strengthen municipal services.
Greece is currently the fifth EBRD investment destination of € 2.5 billion, while only up to 600 million euros is expected for investment within the year. Moreover, the President of the EBRD revealed his intention to establish an office of the Bank for Small and Medium-sized Enterprises in Thessaloniki.
