Telephone call with the President of the Republic of Turkey, Recep Tayyip Erdoğan

The Prime Minister stressed the need for the immediate release of the two soldiers detained in Turkey for 3.5 months with no certain indictments, underlining the importance of this issue for our relations.

Prime Minister, Alexis Tsipras, had a telephone conversation with the President of the Republic of Turkey, Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, to congratulate him on his election.

During their conversation, the Prime Minister stressed the need for the immediate release of the two soldiers detained in Turkey for 3.5 months with no certain indictments, underlining the importance of this issue for our relations.

At the same time, in view of Thursday’s European Council, they discussed the close cooperation of the two countries in the framework of the EU-Turkey Joint Statement.

Finally, they agreed to meet on the sidelines of the NATO Summit in Brussels.
