Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis met today at Maximos Mansion with Microsoft President Brad Smith.
Mr Smith’s visit took place one month after their meeting in Davos, where strong interest in various fields was established.
The two of them discussed potential synergies on many fronts by utilising digital technology as well as the available opportunities for increased investments and enhanced collaboration with Microsoft Hellas.
Moreover, they discussed how Microsoft could contribute to the effort for a stronger sustainable development and the transition to a green economy via investments in our country. They also explored the possibilities of promoting cultural heritage and upgrading education via innovative digital applications.
Specifically, an immediate collaboration between Microsoft and the Ministry of Culture and Sports was agreed, in order to design a programme for Ancient Olympia in the context of Microsoft’s global Corporate Social Responsibility Programme “AI for Good”.
At the same time, Mr Smith had the opportunity to visit the Archaeological Site of Ancient Olympia yesterday and enjoyed a guided tour by the officials of the Ministry of Culture & Sports. According to his statement he was impressed, adding that it was an honour to visit the birthplace of the Olympic Games.
As far as education and lifelong learning are concerned, the prospect of jointly launching retraining courses on the ever-changing digital technologies for tertiary graduates of science schools was also discussed.
The Prime Minister stressed that our country has entered a new era of political stability, which, along with its geostrategic importance and the government’s commitment for a stable investment framework, render it a strong pillar in the Southeastern Mediterranean.
On his part, Mr Smith praised the vision and commitment of the new government, adding that our country can play a leading role in the technological advances of the region.
The meeting was also attended by the Minister of State and Digital Governance, Kyriakos Pierrakakis; the Minister of Education and Religious Affairs, Niki Kerameus; the Minister of Culture and Sports, Lina Mendoni and the Head of the Financial Office of the Prime Minister, Alexis Patelis.
