Teleconference between the Greek PM Kyriakos Mitsotakis and Pope Francis

Greek PM Kyriakos Mitsotakis had a Teleconference with Pope Francis today.
At the heart of the discussion the global challenge the Coronavirus poses lied, as well as the measures taken to address it.
They also discussed issues of environmental protection, given that both Pope Francis and the Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew show particular interest in the environment; the Prime Minister developed the Government’s green agenda, which, he claims, ranks high among Greece’s priorities.
Regarding the protection of the most vulnerable population groups, such as refugees, the Pontiff acknowledged the exceptional efforts Greece has been making, especially over the difficult conditions of the pandemic. At the same time, he expressed regret that more countries have not responded to the programme for relocating unaccompanied minors.
Kyriakos Mitsotakis briefed the Pontiff on the situation in the wider eastern Mediterranean region and stressed that he is looking forward to Pope Francis’ visit to our country, as soon as the situation may allow it.
The Prime Minister recalled the 2021 celebrations of the 200th anniversary of the Greek Revolution and proposed that the Head of the Roman Catholic Church may visit cities in the epicentre of the early years of Christianity during his next visit to Greece, following the footsteps of the Apostle Paul.
