Greek PM Kyriakos Mitsotakis had a teleconference with Google’s President for activities in Europe, the Middle East and Africa, Matt Brittin, on Thursday afternoon.
At the heart of the discussion was the possibility of deepening cooperation between the two sides. Particular emphasis was placed on the development of digital skills in the Greek labour market and the promotion of the cultural treasures of our country through technology.
The Prime Minister noted that the development of digital skills is a critical issue for Greece and the government, while noting that the certification by a company of Google’s size gives added value and recognition.
Mr. Brittin said Google is working extensively with digital training, adding that during quarantine it has trained 5,000 people from the country’s tourism sector in digital skills. At the same time, both sides stressed the importance of developing both work skills and entrepreneurship competence.
On the cultural front, Kyriakos Mitsotakis said that in addition to creating a digital repository, Greece is looking for ways to expand its options on how could people visit or enjoy the unique works and monuments offered by our country.
During the discussion, the other strategic axes of government planning regarding the development and utilization of digital applications were also presented, with the main concern being the improvement of the daily life of the citizens and the simplification of their transactions with the State.
On the occasion of the teleconference, the President of Google for Europe congratulated the Prime Minister for the management of the health crisis in Greece, expressing his admiration for the effective actions of the government.
On the part of the Government, the teleconference was attended by the Minister of State and Digital Governance, Kyriakos Pierrakakis, the Head of the Financial Office of the General Secretariat of the Prime Minister, Alexis Patelis, and the Chief Creative Officer, Steve Vranakis. On Google’s part, the teleconference was attended by Peggy Antonakou, General Manager for Southeast Europe, Giorgia Abeltino, Director of Government Relations for Southern Europe, and Stella Tsomokou, Public Relations Consultant of Google Greece.
