I had the opportunity, at the informal dinner last night, to thoroughly brief my counterparts about the very important strategic partnership agreement signed between Greece and France.
I pointed out that this agreement substantially reinforces Europe’s capacity to build its own defence pillar within NATO.
This is a very important agreement that upgrades Greece’s position geopolitically, and at the same time is accompanied by a significant investment in our Armed Forces, especially the Hellenic Navy. Let me repeat that we are purchasing the best vessels, at the best price, with the speediest delivery timetable.
Tomorrow, in Parliament, we will have the chance to thoroughly discuss this historic agreement. We will all express our views and stand face-to-face with our responsibilities. Because the responsibility of those who will be called upon to vote either in favor or against a historic agreement will also be historic, as this truly is an agreement of national importance.
It saddens me that, unfortunately, some cannot see Greece’s actual national interest beyond their political party blinders.
