Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis met today with the President of the Republic of Bulgaria Rumen Radev, the Prime Minister of Romania Nicolae Ciucă and the President of Serbia Aleksandar Vučić, on the sidelines of the ceremony for the beginning of the commercial operation of the IGB Gas Interconnector in Sofia.
During the meeting with Mr Radev, they acknowledged the excellent level of Greek Bulgarian relations and expressed their common will to further deepen and upgrade them, focusing on connectivity infrastructure projects, especially in the energy sector.
At the meeting with the Prime Minister of Romania, they confirmed the will of both sides to further reinforce the already exceptional bilateral relations, while they focused on the reinforcement of energy cooperation. It was pointed out that the completion of the IGB project will create enhanced prospects for the Balkans as a whole and the wider region. They also discussed the latest developments in Ukraine.
In the context of his contacts, Kyriakos Mitsotakis pointed out our country’s strategic role in the energy security and supply of the region, thanks to its position and the infrastructures it develops, which are becoming even more important as the consequences of the energy crisis – caused by the Russian invasion of Ukraine – are felt.
In the meeting with the President of Serbia Aleksandar Vučić, the two leaders praised the contribution of the IGB project in the diversification of energy sources and routes and the energy security in the region overall, reaffirming the common will to improve connectivity in Southeastern Europe, with a focus on infrastructures.
During the meeting, they acknowledged the exceptional relations between Greece and Serbia and expressed their common will to further enhance the bilateral cooperation in the fields of economy, commerce, tourism and energy.
