Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis’ meeting with Vice-Chancellor and Federal Minister for Economic Affairs and Climate Action of Germany Robert Habeck

Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis met in Thessaloniki with Robert Habeck, Vice-Chancellor and Federal Minister for Economic Affairs and Climate Action of Germany, which is the country of honour at the 88th Thessaloniki International Fair.

During the meeting, they discussed issues of European and bilateral interest, with emphasis on the economy, energy and migration.

Mr Habeck congratulated Kyriakos Mitsotakis on the performance of the Greek economy. The Prime Minister noted that Greece had the second highest growth rate in the EU in the second quarter of 2024 and reiterated that his goal is to further boost the disposable income of Greeks.

On climate change, Kyriakos Mitsotakis reiterated that Europe needs to do more to adapt to climate change and to tackle natural disasters.

In the energy debate he stressed the importance of more European energy networks and interconnections, as there are distortions affecting the overall price of electricity.

Regarding the common European challenge of migration, the Prime Minister reiterated that Greece is implementing a strict but fair migration policy.
